Technology tailored to CPA Australia Members

Since July 2016 I have been piloting a CPA discussion group explaining Technology tailored to CPA Members and the feedback from those inside has been positive.

Exciting news for Monday this week is that CPA Australia is coming back to me on just how best I can co-ordinate the learning outcomes that have been hard won here so they may be more readily shared to fellow CPA members with their help. I am very excited at exploring just how I can align our activities in Sydney to the broader initiatives in Melbourne that I heard about at the Accounting Expo on Wednesday in particular. These initiatives are yet to be announced but I believe when they are, they will help give further clarity to members cautiously looking up from their lodgement programs to see what they have been missing in this technology space. Things are in motion but I guess it is a case of “watch this space”for now.

Now, this new YouTube Channel has the sole aim of sharing all I know to help fellow members decode technology but to be honest it is equally as useful to small and micro business owners alike so they should not be deterred. We must remember that many CPAs are running their own businesses outside public practice as well.

“The Technology Group I lead is my way of giving back to fellow accounting professionals as well as busy small business owners that may not have enough time to follow the rapid pace of change in this area”

Apart of signalling to the market that CPA Australia members are constantly looking at technology, participation in this group is also a way of helping members transition their offline business networks into this new digital era with practical tools, tips and reviews to get them further, faster with online technology.

“Sometimes you just need a safe place to ask questions and get answers without being inundated with sales pitches because you unwittingly subscribed to a sales funnel somewhere.”

YouTube is the second biggest search engine on the planet after Google which owns it and hence why I am looking to make our content as easily accessible as possible via that platform. See one of our first videos here for how and why:

“Members often have a vibrant offline business network but struggle to transition this online where more often the conversation is taking place. We are looking to share practical explanations of how busy practitioners can do just that”

I outlined my views on the importance of having a presence on YouTube in a more detail article on LinkedIn and invite anyone preferring to connect with me there to ask questions which I will address in turn.

Inside the CPA group I share the cutting edge technology that has my attention in online marketing and on YouTube before going even deeper on that are more tailored content via Facebook as well.

The Facebook group is for registered members only but operates as follows:

As to what we will discuss next….

Last week I attended the inaugural Accounting Expo at ICC Sydney where I spoke to Sholto Macpherson, a regular at CPA Australia technology events and head of content on at the Accounting Business Expo since September 2016, where we both agreed what a fantastic event it was. If you missed it, then this is must attend next year on 21 & 22 March 2018 so mark you calendars! I met some wonderful new people and I have a wealth of content to share in weeks ahead as a result. I will definitely be reaching out this week to the event director, Laura Venables, to congratulate her on what was the best event I have been to in a long time.

What if I am not a CPA Australia Member?

For accountants and bookkeepers…

Well good news is that we welcome accounting professionals from other accounting bodies too.

For other business owners…

As a sign of tireless support of small business, we created a separate discussion group for you which is not as accounting centric but still free.

Here you will focus more on how to use technology to get your message heard for little to now spend.

How do we do all this for FREE you ask?

The short answer is using automation tools and systems but best we can answer all your questions inside via our email support and group discussion after you decide you are ready to take the first step.

Of course if Facebook and YouTube are not you thing then you can always reach out to me via Twitter or via LinkedIn. If you just want to know what gear I use to create all this video content and where to get it for the best price then check out my gear guide and ask any questions you have in the comments below and I will do my best to help you any way I can.
